Our Approach

OEM-caliber engineering — faster, more accessible, and with long-term support built in

Most equipment changes hands without any real engineering work being done. GCE was built on a different philosophy: that the real value is in understanding these platforms deeply enough to restore, reconfigure, and support them at the same level the OEM would. That philosophy shapes three principles we've held since day one.

Refurbishment

Component-level rebuild and calibration, tested to original performance on our own line before it ships.

Reconfiguration & Custom Builds

Wafer-size adaptation, application-specific tuning, and compound-semi builds, engineered around your process, not a generic spec sheet.

Consulting & Advisory

Equipment-grounded advice for fabs at every stage: what to buy, what to audit, what to build first.

Why refurbished

Buying equipment isn't just about price. New, OEM-refurbished, or broker — every route has real trade-offs. Here's how GCE compares

Dimension
New Current Generation Equipment
OEM Refurbished Division
Broker
Refurbished with GCE
Cost
Very High
Significantly more than a refurbished legacy tool
High
Premium pricing for the OEM name and warranty
Low
Cheaper upfront, but sold as-is with no guarantees
Medium
Refurbished pricing well below new and OEM refurbished
Lead Time
High
Long manufacturing and delivery timelines, often over a year
Medium
Faster than new, but still 6+ months out
Unpredictable
Sold first-come, first-served, often before your approval clears
Low
Equipment refurbished, tested, and shipped within 1-3 months
Refurbishment Quality
N/A
Brand new build, no refurbishment involved
Medium
Sometimes unavailable or deprioritized for legacy platforms
None
As-is, unverified condition
High
Rebuilt and reconfigured to your exact specifications
Upfront Risk
Low
Known condition, backed fully by the OEM
Low
OEM backing reduces risk of unknown issues
High
Sold as-is, condition and history often unverified
Low
Tested, qualified, and warrantied before it ships
Ongoing Support
High
OEM support typically available for the life of new tools
Medium
Parts and service may be deprioritized as platforms age
None
No support once the sale is complete
High
Lifecycle service, parts, and expertise for years

OEMs deprioritize legacy Canon and KLA platforms over time, and independent resellers rarely offer support beyond the sale. GCE is structured around exactly that gap — delivering refurbished pricing with the long-term support these tools depend on.

Specialization

Mature node isn't old — it's the backbone of modern electronics

PLACEHOLDER — needs a wafer stepper photo

From 28nm to 180nm, this is where power management, RF, analog, sensors, and the chips behind EVs, AI data centers, advanced robotics, and connected devices are made. Demand at these nodes continues to grow, driven by global electrification, the rapid expansion of compound semiconductor manufacturing, and increasing regional investments in domestic semiconductor capacity worldwide.

PLACEHOLDER — needs a photo for the third specialization card

GCE specializes in the photolithography and e-beam metrology equipment this space depends on. Our Canon steppers support 180nm and above while our KLA CD-SEMs extend metrology capability down to 28nm, covering the full range of mature-node and compound semiconductor production across GaN, SiC, GaAs, and InP. These platforms require serious, ongoing engineering support, and that is precisely what we are built to provide

Independent & founder-led

Independent and founder-led so you don't wait on a committee

We move at our own speed

GCE is privately owned, with no outside investors or partners to sign off on decisions. When a customer needs a fast answer on pricing, scope, or turnaround, they get it directly from the people running the business — without committees, approval chains, or competing priorities getting in the way.

Our field engineers make the call on-site

When a GCE engineer is on the floor of a customer's facility troubleshooting a tool, they are trusted to make decisions in the moment. That autonomy keeps us flexible and responsive, and it means customers get real answers in real time rather than waiting for escalations back to headquarters.

We're not going anywhere

GCE has had the same family ownership for 25+ years. Some of our engineers have been with the company for two decades or more — the same people who supported the tools we sold you years ago are the ones who will support them years from now. This is a business built to last.

25 Years of Engineering

25 years, one direction: deeper

GCE was founded in 2000, when the market for used semiconductor equipment was fragmented and largely informal. For the first several years, GCE brokered equipment for other fabs. The real insight came from watching where value was actually created: not in sourcing or moving equipment, but in understanding it well enough to restore and support it. We chose the complex platforms on purpose.

2000

Founded as an online marketplace for used semiconductor equipment.

2002

Opened a facility in Blackwood, New Jersey, which remains our headquarters today.

2003

Acquired our first CD-SEM, establishing what would become a core product line.

2005

Opened a Shanghai office to develop the China market.

2010

Refurbishment and re-engineering capabilities further established. Expanded operations to Silicon Valley for Canon lithography and Taiwan for automated test equipment.

2013

Delivered a DUV photolithography system to a global top-tier IDM.

2015

Recognized the compound semiconductor shift early and began serving GaAs, InP, GaN and SiC fabs across mobile and IoT production.

2017

Shipped our 100th refurbished system.

2020-2022

Through COVID, consolidated Shanghai, California, and Taiwan operations to our New Jersey headquarters.

2025

25 years in business. Same ownership, same team, debt-free.

2026

Actively expanding into India, engaging directly with fabs and institutions as the market develops.

Global reach

Re-engineered in the United States. Deployed in 30+ countries

Independent and family-owned, with no investors or approval layers slowing us down. Our field engineers make the call on-site, so customers get faster answers and quicker resolutions, no matter where they are.

Orange dotted map of India

Growing with India's semiconductor industry.

India is investing heavily in building out its semiconductor manufacturing base, and GCE is investing alongside it — visiting several times a year, supporting active projects on the ground, and building toward a local presence. If you're building capacity in India, let's connect.
